There are a few differences between Unsubsidized loans and Subsidized Loans loans. Unsubsidized loans are not need-based and interest accrues as soon as the loan is disbursed into your student account. Subsidized loans are need based and interest doesn’t begin accruing until you hit below half-time or are no longer in attendance of school. If you are a dependent student, you will see a Parent Plus Loan. Parent Plus Loans are loans that your parents can take out to invest in your education. Parent Plus Loans have a higher interest rate, but you can be awarded up your Cost of Attendance. Please note that one of your parents/guardians must apply and have a credit-check run for your Plus loan. For more information on Federal Loans, please visit Federal Student Aid.
